Arguably the most well-known Australian native bird, the Laughing Kookaburra is extremely wide-spread, needing only to find large enough trees to make their nest. Often mistaken for a comical character due to their body shape or laugh-like cry, these striking birds pair for life and spend longer raising their young, forming a social system where the young co-habitat the parents territory. Due to this extra care they tend to breed in small numbers, but that is balanced by a longer life cycle. The joker of the bush is actually the home-maker.
